Chelsea showed their mettle in their first leg of their quarterfinal match, and they are going to win the Europa Conference League. With nine consecutive victories, the Blues have maintained their pristine record in the competition. Chelsea had the best offensive performance and second-worst defensive performance in the group round. They beat FC Copenhagen 3-1 on aggregate, but they had to fight for it. Now they’re in the quarterfinals. All three of their goals against Legia Warsaw came in the second half.

With six points, two points behind fourth-place Newcastle (despite having played one more game), Chelsea is in a great position to compete for a spot in the Premier League’s Champions League. With the top five teams advancing to the Champions League, Chelsea is in a fantastic position to regain their place among Europe’s best, but they’ll need to shake off performances like last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Ipswich.

After making it all the way to the quarterfinals of the Champions League in 1995–96, Legia Warsaw are now enjoying their most impressive European tournament run to date. Last year, they competed in the Europa Conference League, but they were eliminated during the play-offs for the knockout round. This time around, Legia Warsaw didn’t have to worry about that since they finished seventh in their group. With the joint-best defence in the group stage, allowing five goals, the Polish squad won four and drew two of their six matches. Unfortunately, they’ve let in six goals in three matches during the knockout round, including three in their two-legged contest against Molde, which Chelsea went on to win by a score of three.

Legia suffered a devastating defeat over the weekend, casting serious doubt on their prospects of making it to Europe next season. Their loss over the weekend dropped them to third place, 11 points behind their opponent Jagiellonia; unless a dramatic change in fortunes, they will not be participating in Europe next season.
